Arrive early to claim your real estate! The beaches get incredibly crowded on the 4th of July. Pack a beach picnic, enjoy the surf, and grab dinner or takeout from the local restaurants along Avenida de la Playa before the sun sets.

Spend the day exploring the “Jewel City”! You can visit the famous sea lions at La Jolla Cove, browse the boutiques in La Jolla Village, rent a kayak to explore the sea caves, or simply relax on the expansive sand at La Jolla Shores.
Head directly to Kellogg Park at La Jolla Shores. Because the aerial vehicles launch from the adjacent La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, this park offers the most direct, front-row view of the formations.
Parking is notoriously tight on Independence Day. The Kellogg Park lot typically fills up by early morning. Plan to find residential street parking very early in the day, utilize paid parking garages up in La Jolla Village (and walk down), or take a rideshare to avoid the hassle altogether.
The sky show event starts at approximately 8:45 PM and goes til 9:30 PM.
The total duration of the aerial sky show is 15 minutes, start to finish.
Expect a spectacular, eco-friendly, and quiet alternative to fireworks! A synchronized fleet of up to 500 brightly lit aerial vehicles will soar 350 feet above the water, creating animated, glowing patriotic imagery and La Jolla-themed designs against the night sky.
The aerial vehicle movements are expertly choreographed to a patriotic soundtrack. Audio is typically broadcast over loudspeakers in the primary viewing area at Kellogg Park. Be sure to check the event website on the day of the show, as they often provide a streaming link so you can sync the music directly on your smartphone.
Once you are situated at Kellogg Park, La Jolla Shores, or La Jolla Cove, simply look up toward the sky just off the coast of the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. The drones fly high enough to be clearly visible from almost anywhere along the nearby shoreline.
Traffic leaving the La Jolla Shores area will be gridlocked immediately following the 15-minute show. Save yourself the stress by waiting it out—take a moonlit stroll on the beach or grab a late-night dessert and drink at a nearby restaurant until the crowds thin out.
